Millions of trucks travel across the United States every day to help move America forward. PITT OHIO helps to move America’s freight safely, securely and on time with the best truck drivers in the trucking industry. Safety at PITT OHIO is not about winning awards, it’s about people. It is important to us that we keep our PITT OHIO truck drivers safe and the motoring public safe as well.
“I learned the importance of safety early on, but I appreciate and think it’s really important that PITT OHIO keeps up with all of the safety training. It’s always at the forefront. PITT OHIO gives us all of the training and equipment to do our jobs safely every day. Chuck [Hammel] takes good care of us,” Allentown, Pennsylvania Driver, Tim McClure, admitted.
We believe in leading by example, and are proud to be a 8-time recipient of the highest safety honor from the American Trucking Association (ATA). It is because of our commitment to safe practices and standards that PITT OHIO has been honored with the prestigious ATA President’s Trophy in the Over 100 Million Miles category. Our truck drivers reinforce these high standards every time they step in the cab. PITT OHIO has received the President’s Trophy, naming us the safest fleet in America, every year we have been eligible.
The ATA President’s Trophy is the highest safety award available to motor carriers in the United States and is presented annually to only three motor carriers to win. The judges have determined PITT OHIO is outstanding on the basis of its safety record, program, and community outreach activities.
Everyone at PITT OHIO believes in supporting the communities where we live and work. As a company we support the charities Make A Wish Foundation, Autism Speaks, and The Boys & Girls Clubs of America, among many others. Every year, PITT OHIO spearheads a coat drive with the Pennsylvania Motor Truck Association to gift 100 coats to the children of a local Boys & Girls Club.
To further our message and share our safety expertise with our peers, PITT OHIO employees are active members of American Trucking Association committees, and participate in the ATA Committees: Regulation, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Hazardous Materials and Recruitment and Retention. Four times a year, PITT OHIO visits the Pennsylvania State Police Academy to teach the cadets about tractor trailers, regulations, and insights about highway safety.
“It is rewarding to know that the programs we put into place to keep our own employees and the general public safe is regarded so highly in the industry,” says Vice President of Safety, Jeff Mercadante, “Our safety programs only work if everyone at PITT OHIO believes in them, and that starts at the very top.”
“This was truly a team effort,” Jim Fields, PITT OHIO’s Chief Operating Officer stated. “Our operations, safety and vehicle maintenance teams work together to keep safety in the forefront of every second, minute, hour and day for everything we do.”
PITT OHIO has some of the safest equipment on the road today because we invest in the latest and best technology for our vehicles. This enables our truck drivers to minimize the risks with the wide range of conditions they experience on a daily and nightly basis.
